CHS gives Angel her wings
Angel Ashley, a freshman at Choctaw High School, is the beneficiary of this year’s Gold Rush Week.
Angel was born prematurely with hydrocephalus ( water on the brain) and spina bifida (a birth defect that involves the incomplete development of the spinal cord). As a result, she is bound to a wheelchair for life.
“We’re currently at five thousand dollars,” Student Council President Rachel Moore said, ”but we want to get fifteen thousand dollars.”
A charity walk for Angel will be taking place this Saturday, February 6. It will be held in the Choctaw High School Activity Center from 9 am to 12 am. The official week of Gold Rush is February 16th through the 19th. Each day has a dress up activity, a lunchroom game, and an after school activity. Tuesday the 16th is Favorite Color Day. Students are asked to wear pink or blue since those are Angel’s favorite colors. The lunch room game will be an Oreo racing league, and the after-school activity will be volleyball. Wednesday the 17th will be Scrubs Day. The lunchroom game will be Karaoke, and the after school activity will be dodgeball. Thursday the 18th is when students are encouraged to wear their most fashionable attire. The lunchroom game will be the car bash, at which one dollar buys three hits. That night will be three-on-three basketball. On Friday the 19th, all students are encouraged to wear their Gold Rush shirts. The lunchroom game will be an Academic Team challenge. Gold Rush wraps up with a final assembly in the afternoon.
All proceedes from the Gold Rush will go to Angel’s family to help pay for her medical expenses.
