Blood drive gives students opportunity to save lives
On Tuesday, February 16th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., The Oklahoma Blood Institute will be in the Media Center.
Oklahoma requires that you are at least seventeen years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more, and that you are in good health. OBI prohibits tattoos that you have gotten in the last year, and you must have a one year deferral from the date of the tattoo. Also, the Oklahoma Blood Institute requires that you have information on your piercings, when and where you had it done, if you have gotten a piercing in the last six months.
All donors must sign the permission slip regardless of age. Benefits from giving blood are that every donor receives a free beanie cap, members for life points, and health screenings. Additionally, if you donate four times by the time you graduate, you get into the Honor Cord. The Honor Cord is a program where students benefit by receiving a sense of volunteering and philanthropy. The students involved also learn new leaderships opportunities, and a new understanding value of goals.
The Oklahoma Blood Institute has a goal of 125 blood units to be donated. this event is sponsored by the Health and Medical academy. for more information, please contact Paula Sendall, room D9.
