Ash a rising star for baseball’s Team USA
Ty Ash, sixteen, is a junior. He is a first baseman, pitcher, and designated hitter (known as a DH) for Team USA. Ash is proficient at all three, but prefers to “DH”.
Being on Team USA seems like a very exciting experience, and it is not without its perks. “We get to travel the world, and play against the best players,” said Ash. “We get to stay in Florida for three weeks, and everything is free.”
Ty has also had the opportunity to visit many exciting places such as Puerto Rico, Mexico City, San Diego, and St. Augustine, Florida. He travels to all of these places for one reason: to play against the best players baseball has to offer.
The most exciting thing Ty experienced in his time with Team USA was hitting a walk off home run against Mexico in the semifinals.
In the future, Ash plans to attend and play for the University of Miami before entering professional baseball, possibly for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Could Ash ever see himself playing in the Olympics? “They’re taking baseball out of the Olympics next time,” he said. “I only have two years left, so, we’ll see.”
