CHS Drama takes state for the second year in a row
At 3:45 p.m on October 24th Choctaw High School Drama staged their One Act production of Equus at Edmond North High School in hopes of becoming the State Champions for the second year in a row.
Later that evening, CHS Drama cast and crew as well as their supporters sat together, joined hand in hand awaiting the results. As the announcer grabbed the microphone, the nerves set in for Choctaw’s crowd. “And this year’s One Act State Champions are, directed by Mrs. Mary Burton, Choctaw High School!”
In one simultaneous motion, the crowd leaped to their feet, hands flew in the air, screams echoed throughout the auditorium. CHS Drama State Champions for the second year running. “Eight weeks of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears” Chelsea Dockemeyer, “It all paid off, and now we have back to back championships to show for it.”
For the second time Choctaw placed first in tech as well as production. “Winning the tech award feels phenominal,” said Rachel Tessier, CHS tech crew manager “I am very proud of all my crew.”
Ten actors recieved the All State Actors Award. Out of these ten, Aaron Burton and Heath Jones, Jr. were chosen from Choctaw. “It was a dream to bring home a State Championship,” said Jones.
Placing second, was Norman High School and placing third was Norman North High School.
“They liked it,” said Christian Craven, “So they put a State ring on it!”
